In the third phase, it expands to 24-hour passes and in phase four, 48-hour passes, which allow them to spend the weekend with approved family members. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety. At Abba’s House we seek to provide a season of safety, healing, and stability that propels our guests forward to becoming productive members of society. We seek to meet their physical needs, model basic life skills, and make progress toward dealing with the trauma they have experienced.

They will arrange pick up of donated furniture on Mondays and Tuesdays of each week, if needed. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of the items donated to the store is sowed back into Abba House to pay the overhead expenses. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life. We work with Houston refugee resettlement agencies to identify newly arriving refugees who would most benefit from our program. Typically this is someone who comes from an extreme trauma situation, or who comes from a more remote area which will make their adjustment to big city life a bit more difficult. Our goal is to provide additional time to rest, heal, and adjust to American life before beginning their usual resettlement process. Whereas many people who deal with the ordeals that the women in Abba House have dealt with are placed on medications by physicians to treat their traumas, the aim of Abba House is very different. He has served as Senior Pastor in churches in Georgia, Texas, Missouri and Tennessee, and also spent several years as a foreign missionary in Guatemala. She and her husband, Stephen (also a member of Abba's House and on our safety team), have been married for 18 years and they have six grown children.
